About
Sanshui Xiao is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Photonics Engineering, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His research focuses on quantum photonics of low-dimensional systems, nanophotonics, and meta-optics. He holds a Ph.D. from Zhejiang University (2004) and previously served as Assistant Professor at DTU (2008–2011). His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean energy and innovation.
Key research areas include 2D materials integration, plasmonics, and optical device engineering. He has authored/co-authored 212 publications and led 22 projects, including quantum technology initiatives like QMoire and MXene-based nanolasers. Awards include the European Optical Society Prize (2008) and Springer's Outstanding Papers Award (2019).
His lab, part of the NanoPhoton Center, explores topics such as magneto-optical heterostructures, single-photon emitters in hBN, and interlayer exciton lasing. Recent work highlights include room-temperature moiré exciton lasers and ultra-sensitive myoglobin detection via photonic gratings.
Xiao supervises PhD students like Diogo I. and Huang X., and collaborates internationally on projects like strain-induced defect localization and irradiation engineering of luminescent materials. His research bridges fundamental quantum phenomena with practical applications in photonics and energy systems.
