Sanjay Mehrotra

Sanjay Mehrotra is a Professor of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences at Northwestern University and the founding director of the Center for Engineering and Health in the Institute for Public Health and Medicine. He holds a PhD in Operations Research from Columbia University, along with MS and BE degrees in Industrial Engineering. His research focuses on decision optimization under uncertainty, with applications in healthcare systems engineering, energy, inventory management, and financial budgeting. Notable contributions include groundbreaking work on stochastic optimization convergence, risk-adjusted optimization, and distributionally robust models.

Professor Mehrotra's healthcare research includes modeling the US National Transplant System, liver disease progression, and pandemic vaccine supply chains. He has pioneered quantitative methods for organ allocation policies and social determinants of health disparities. His recent work addresses equity in kidney transplantation, the impact of frailty indices, and optimizing resource allocation in healthcare systems.

He has chaired the INFORMS Fellow Committee and served on the INFORMS Board, demonstrating leadership in operations research. His publications span stochastic optimization, healthcare analytics, and algorithm design, with a focus on bridging theoretical rigor and practical healthcare applications.

His current affiliations include the Master of Science in Machine Learning and Data Science program at Northwestern. Research interests are clustered around robust optimization frameworks, health systems engineering, and translational research in public health.
