Sang Leigh is an Assistant Professor at Cornell University's College of Human Ecology, Department of Human Centered Design. Previously, he held roles as Senior Principal Creative Technologist at Samsung Design Innovation Center and Assistant Professor at Georgia Tech. He earned his PhD from MIT Media Lab in 2018, following software engineering work at Samsung Electronics developing assistive technologies like eyeCan.
His research bridges academia and industry, focusing on creative, critical, and aesthetic uses of technology in design. Notable projects include the Machine Poetics Lab, exploring AI systems that are interpretive and symbiotic with humans. He has exhibited work at SIGGRAPH Asia, CHI, TEI, and Microsoft Research Studio 99. His art installations like Remnance of Form and A Flying Pantograph challenge norms in human-technology interactions.
Key awards include Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards (2017, 2015) and UIST 2014 People's Choice recognition. His work has been featured in WIRED, BBC, and Discovery. Leigh teaches courses on robotic painting and human-machine symbiosis, and holds patents in display control systems and eye-tracking technologies.
