Dr. Sandy Wilkinson is a Lecturer in Science Education (Chemistry) and Director of Secondary Initial Teacher Education at the University of Birmingham's School of Education. She holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry and BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, both from the University of Birmingham, alongside a PGDipEd in Science: Chemistry.
Previously, she taught Science and Chemistry at the secondary level for 14 years, holding roles such as Advanced Skills Teacher and a secondment to the Royal Society of Chemistry as a School Teacher Fellow. Her work focused on strategies to address challenges in transitioning from secondary to higher education in chemistry. Before joining the university, she was a National Strategies Funded Science Consultant for Birmingham City Council, supporting science education in primary and secondary schools.
Her research interests include accessible educational materials, as evidenced by her publication on accessible chemical diagrams. She currently leads modules such as 'Introductory Organic Chemistry' and supervises students in PGCE, PhD, and EdD programs.
