Sandro Grelli is Associate Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where he directs the Virology Unit and serves on the COVID-19 Task Force. He coordinates research programs on retroviral infections (HTLV-1/HIV), host immune responses, and antiviral drug discovery. His work examines apoptotic mechanisms in viral pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies for HTLV-1-associated diseases.
Research focuses on HTLV-1 oncogenesis, HIV biomarker discovery, and endogenous retrovirus activity in neurological disorders. He leads projects developing novel therapeutic combinations targeting NF-kB pathways in HTLV-1 transformed cells and studies HERV involvement in autism spectrum disorders. He serves as Editor for Cell Death Disease and collaborates on multicenter clinical studies.
