Sandra Wachter

Sandra Wachter is a Professor of Technology and Regulation at the University of Potsdam's Hasso Plattner Institute, where she contributes to the 'Data and AI' cluster's focus on fairness and explainability in AI methods. Previously, she held positions at the University of Oxford, including Professor of Technology and Regulation at the Oxford Internet Institute (2022), Associate Professor (2019), and Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2017).

Her research addresses the ethical, legal, and regulatory implications of AI, emphasizing transparency, fairness, and bias detection. She developed the Conditional Demographic Disparity Test, a tool adopted by Amazon Web Services to identify AI bias, and her work informs legislation and corporate practices.
