Sandra Rousseau

Sandra Rousseau, Associate Professor of French and Francophone Studies at Carleton College, specializes in contemporary French and Francophone culture, memory studies, and visual media. She has taught at Carleton since 2015, offering courses on graphic novels, French language, and the politics of humor.

• Current courses include Intermediate French (FREN 204), Francophone Emotions (FREN 206), and European City Memory (EUST 110).
• Her research explores intersections of humor and trauma, particularly in Franco-Algerian contexts, and she has collaborated with St. Olaf on interdisciplinary projects.

Rousseau’s recent publications analyze Algerian political cartoons, graphic memoirs, and Middle Eastern cultural representation in Francophone spaces. Her work bridges literature, history, and visual analysis.
