Dr. Sandra Muse Isaacs is an Eastern Cherokee (Ani-tsisqua, Bird Clan) and Gaelic scholar serving as Associate Professor of English & Creative Writing at the University of Windsor. Her research examines Indigenous oral traditions as living literary forms, emphasizing cultural survivance, sovereignty, and their application in land reclamation and language revitalization. She collaborates internationally on climate literacy projects exploring Indigenous storytelling's role in environmental education.
Her award-winning book Eastern Cherokee Stories documents cultural preservation in Appalachian communities. Dr. Isaacs teaches specialized courses in Indigenous Studies including Indigenous Women Writers, Earth Connections, and Anishnaabe Stories, having previously taught at multiple Canadian institutions across Indigenous territories.
