Sandra B. Greene, DrPH, is a Professor of the Practice of Health Policy and Management at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Gillings School of Global Public Health. She also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy department. Her roles include Co-Director of the Program on Healthcare Finance at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research and Chair of the NC State Health Coordinating Council.
Education: BA in Mathematics (UNC-CH, 1971), MSPH in Biostatistics (UNC-CH, 1972), and DrPH in Biostatistics (UNC-CH, 1977).
Research interests focus on health insurance, managed care, healthcare cost trends, physician profiling, and North Carolina health policy. She leads the Carolina Cost and Quality Initiative, a collaboration between UNC and North Carolina health insurers to leverage claims data for research. She oversees state databases for hospital discharges and emergency department visits, supporting health planning and research.
Her work emphasizes translating data into actionable insights for healthcare quality improvement and policy decisions, particularly in vulnerable populations and disaster preparedness.
