Sander van Hes

Sander van Hes is a Lecturer and PhD student at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, affiliated with the Faculty of English and the Department of Older Germanic Languages. He holds an MA in Comparative Indo-European Linguistics (cum laude) and a BA in Greek and Latin Language and Culture from Leiden University, the Netherlands.

His research focuses on historical and comparative Indo-European linguistics, with specializations in Ancient Greek (particularly Homeric, Mycenaean, and lyric poetry), Latin and other Italic languages, Baltic and Slavic languages, Old Irish, Vedic Sanskrit, and language contact phenomena. His doctoral project, 'Studies in the Reconstruction of the Proto-Balto-Slavic Verbal System,' is supervised by Dr. Ronald Kim and Dr. Miguel Villanueva Svensson.

The trends in his publications indicate a strong focus on morphological and etymological analysis within Indo-European languages, particularly Ancient Greek suffixes and Proto-Indo-European stem formations. His work bridges synchronic and diachronic analysis, drawing data from multiple branches including Slavic, Indo-Iranian, and Greek.

He has presented at international conferences such as the West-Coast Indo-European Conference (WeCIEC) and the Indo-European Research Colloquium (IERC), and contributed to the organization of the 7th IERC. He has also participated in specialized summer schools in Pavia and Vilnius, enhancing his expertise in Indo-European linguistics and Lithuanian.
