About
Dr Sandeep Konduru is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Keele University’s School of Allied Health Professions and Pharmacy and a full-time Consultant Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) since 2009. Operating from Royal Stoke University Hospital, he integrates cutting-edge clinical practice with translational research.
Research interests lie at the intersection of orthopaedic surgery and regenerative medicine. In collaboration with Professor Ying Yang of Keele’s Institute for Science & Technology in Medicine (ISTM), he develops novel bone-nodule formation techniques using mesenchymal stem cells as alternatives to conventional bone grafts. His laboratory work encompasses biomaterials testing of spinal implants and kinematic analysis of wrist instability. He also leads a clinical project investigating the relationship between multiple myeloma and back pain at UHNM.
Although no formal awards or publication lists are provided, Dr Konduru has secured competitive funding for his stem-cell project, published several joint papers with Professor Yang, and is actively seeking commercial partnerships to translate laboratory findings into clinical therapies.
He currently co-supervises one PhD student engaged in the bone-tissue-engineering project and is pursuing further grant support for his multiple-myeloma back-pain study.
Dr Konduru previously established a dedicated materials-testing laboratory during his Spinal Fellowship in Liverpool, underscoring his long-standing commitment to evidence-based implant design and patient safety.
