Dr. Samuel Zhang is a Senior Lecturer in Economics and Undergraduate Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Business at Federation University Australia. He is also a Fellow at the Global Labor Organization (GLO). Prior to this role, he served as a Dean’s Research Fellow at Deakin University’s Department of Economics. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from RMIT University, alongside advanced degrees in Economics and English Literature from Chinese institutions.
His research focuses on Development Economics, Applied Micro-econometrics, and Macroeconomics, with an emphasis on formulating evidence-based policies for sustainable development. He has published in top journals like Energy Economics, Journal of Development Studies, and China Economic Review, and his work has been featured by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and the World Economic Forum.
Recent research topics include the effects of financial inclusion on welfare, historical data modeling of R&D intensity, and the impact of energy poverty on children’s academic performance in China. He actively reviews for prestigious journals including Journal of Business Research and Energy Economics.
Samuel has received awards such as the RMIT Research Award and RMIT Teaching Award. His professional memberships include the American Economic Association and the Development Studies Association of Australia.
