Samuel Weber is the Avalon Foundation Professor of Humanities at Northwestern University and co-director of its Paris Program in Critical Theory. He studied with Paul de Man and Theodor W. Adorno, co-translating Adorno’s Prisms, which profoundly shaped interpretations of the Frankfurt School. His research spans media theory, psychoanalysis, and philosophy, with notable works on Walter Benjamin and Kafka. Weber’s recent publications include Preexisting Conditions: Recounting the Plague (2022) and Singularity: Politics and Poetics (2021). He also engaged in theater and opera dramaturgy in Germany, informing his book Theatricality as Medium (2004). Current projects explore Freud, Heidegger, and Kafka’s themes.
