He serves as Director of Graduate Studies for the Interfaculty Graduate School of Infection Biology and Microbiology (IGIM), Deputy Director of the Interfaculty Institute for Microbiology and Infection Medicine Tübingen (IMIT), and member of the Cluster of Excellence "Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections" (CMFI) Board. He also co-coordinates the DZIF's TTU Gastrointestinal Infections.
- Education: Human Biology (Marburg), Biomedicine (Karolinska Institute), Biochemistry PhD (Karolinska, 2008)
Research focuses on anti-infective strategies targeting bacterial virulence mechanisms, particularly structural and functional analysis of Salmonella's Type III Secretion System (T3SS) and Legionella's Type IV Secretion System (T4SS). His work spans molecular microbiology, infection biology, and therapeutic development, with emphasis on pathogen-host interactions and secretion system inhibition.
Recent publications show trends in secretion system architecture, effector protein targeting, and anti-virulence compound discovery. Collaborations include EMBO, HFSP, DZIF, and CMFI initiatives.
