Samuel Labi

Samuel Labi is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Purdue University's College of Engineering, specializing in transportation systems. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Science and Technology (Kumasi, Ghana) in 1987, followed by a master's and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in 1997 and 2001, respectively.

His research focuses on highway infrastructure management, intelligent transportation systems, transportation economics, and statistical/operations research tools for infrastructure optimization. Recent work explores autonomous vehicles, electric vehicle charging networks, and AI-driven congestion mitigation.

He received the Milton Pikarsky Award (2002) for his transportation engineering dissertation and multiple Matthew G. Karlaftis Best Paper Awards (2023, 2024, 2025). As a principal investigator for National Research Council, Federal Highway Administration, and Indiana Department of Transportation projects, he has advanced policies for infrastructure sustainability and smart mobility.
