Samuel C. Ramer

Samuel C. Ramer is Associate Professor of History at Tulane University, specializing in modern Russian political, social, and cultural history. His research examines healthcare conflicts in late tsarist Russia and the cultural impact of figures like Joseph Brodsky, using literature as a historical lens.

Ramer's research focuses on Russian social history, particularly the dilemmas in rural medical practice during the revolutionary period, and the role of literature in Soviet dissent. His publications analyze topics from 19th-century childbirth practices to post-Stalin intellectual movements.

He has directed the LEH Teacher Institute for Advanced Study and teaches courses spanning Russian revolutions, Stalinism, and literature-society relationships from 1800 to present.
