Samson Dowland

Samson Dowland is a Lecturer in Anatomy & Histology at the School of Medical Sciences, University of Sydney. His research focuses on reproductive biology, maternal health, and pregnancy mechanisms in diverse species such as seahorses and sharks. He has secured grants including 'When pregnant males deliver: how do seahorse fathers transport nutrients to embryos?' and 'Developing a new non-hormonal contraceptive using advanced biomedical materials.'

His work explores uterine biology, male pregnancy in seahorses, and novel contraceptive methods. Key projects include studying zinc-based contraceptives and structural changes in uterine and brood pouch tissues. Current advisee Arda PODA investigates male seahorse pregnancy dynamics.
