Samira Syed

Samira Syed, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in hematology and oncology. She joined the faculty in 2012 and holds membership in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Simmons Cancer Center Data Safety Monitoring Committee, and multiple research groups focusing on breast and gastrointestinal malignancies. Dr. Syed is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in hematology and medical oncology. Her clinical expertise includes breast cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, and phase 1 clinical trials.

• Education: Medical Degree - Aga Khan University Medical College (Karachi, Pakistan); Internal Medicine Residency - Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX); Hematology Fellowship - Baylor College of Medicine and MD Anderson Cancer Center; Medical Oncology Fellowship - UT Health Science Center San Antonio.

Her research has produced 12 peer-reviewed publications, 6 case reports, and 10 book chapters. Dr. Syed is actively involved in professional societies like the American Society of Clinical Oncology and holds leadership roles in committees such as the Breast Medical Oncology Committee for the VIA Clinical Pathways. Recognized for teaching excellence, she is a member of the UT Southwestern Academy of Teachers (SWAT).

Her research interests span breast and gastrointestinal cancers, with participation in collaborative groups like the breast malignancy and GI malignancy research teams. She serves as a Co-Investigator on multiple oncology-focused studies.
