Samir Gautam

Samir Gautam, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. He earned his MD and PhD at Yale, completed residency in Internal Medicine, and a fellowship in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at Yale. His research focuses on asthma pathophysiology, critical care medicine, and respiratory infections, with a particular interest in biomarkers (e.g., alarmins, procalcitonin) and inflammatory pathways. He has published extensively on asthma subtypes, viral-induced inflammation, and clinical outcomes in critically ill patients.

Dr. Gautam’s research has led to awards including the NIH K08 Award, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Fellowship, and YCCI Scholar Award. He mentors postdoctoral researchers and medical students, and his clinical expertise includes managing pulmonary diseases such as asthma, critical care for respiratory failure, and sepsis management.

His work bridges clinical practice and translational research, addressing gaps in pneumonia diagnosis, cytokine-driven lung injury, and coagulopathy in severe infections.
