Sameer Patil is an Associate Professor in the School of Computing at the University of Utah, affiliated with the Department of Informatics. His academic career includes previous roles as Assistant Professor at Indiana University Bloomington (2016–2021) and a brief interim appointment at the University of Utah (2021). He holds a PhD in Information and Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine, and dual Master’s degrees in Human-Computer Interaction and Computer Science from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Patil’s research focuses on human-centered computing, cybersecurity, privacy, and data governance. His work explores sociotechnical systems, misinformation mitigation, privacy preferences in pandemic-tracking apps, and privacy education in software engineering.
