Samara Gunter is an Associate Professor of Economics at Colby College. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (2008), an M.A. from the University of Michigan (2003), and a B.A. from the University of Chicago (2000). Her research focuses on public economics, taxation, welfare, and poverty, with particular attention to policy implications of tax reforms, urban fiscal issues, and labor market dynamics.
Her recent work examines the effects of school closures on parental labor supply, the historical context of urban debt crises, and the behavioral aspects of tax compliance. Gunter also explores the intersection of technology (e.g., internet access) with tax filing behaviors and evaluates policies like child support enforcement and state tax credits.
Gunter teaches courses such as Principles of Microeconomics and Microeconomic Theory at Colby.
