Samantha Moore

Samantha Moore is an Associate Professor (0.2) in Animation at University College Volda, Norway, and an affiliated academic with the Royal College of Art's School of Communication. Her research explores animation as a medium to document the 'invisible'—concepts like neuropsychological brain states, scientific processes, and cultural practices. She co-edits the journal Animation Practice, Process & Production with Dr. Miriam Harris.

Moore's work is deeply collaborative, engaging with scientists, medical professionals, and artisans. Her practice spans cinema, VR/AR, data visualization, and textile-based animation. Notable projects include Bloomers (2019), which won multiple awards, and A Language of Shapes (2022), funded by the Wellcome Trust. She has received grants from the BFI, Wellcome Trust, and Arts Council England.

Her research interests emphasize the intersection of art and science, expanded animation forms, and the ethical documentation of human experiences. Awards include the Nature Visual Science Award (2016) and Best British Film at the London International Animation Festival (2019). Moore is a member of the Society of Animation Studies and founder of the Animation Practice as Research SIG.
