About
Samantha Butler is an Associate Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine of the University of California, Los Angeles. She is affiliated with the Department of Neurobiology and the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research. Her research focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms that establish sensory relay circuits during embryonic development and leveraging these mechanisms for spinal cord regeneration in injury models.
Research Interests: The Butler Laboratory investigates
- Developmental pathways (BMP, Wnt, netrin1) in dorsal spinal cord circuitry
- Temporal and spatial axon guidance cues
- Directed differentiation protocols for sensory interneurons
- Applications of stem cell models in neurodevelopmental research
Recent Publications: Her work spans Cell Reports, Development, and eLife, with thematic focus on BMP/Wnt signaling, netrin1’s dual roles, and stem cell-derived models for spinal development. She actively engages in academic dissemination through seminars at institutions like U Mass Chan Medical School and UCI.
