Sam Perry

Sam Perry is a Lecturer in the Mortuary Science and Funeral Service program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU), where he has been employed since 2018. He teaches courses in Green Funeral Services, Funeral Service History and Orientation, Funeral Service Management, and Embalming Color and Cosmetics.

• Education: Master of Science in Education (2021) and Bachelor of Science in Mortuary Science and Funeral Service (2012), both from SIU.

His research focuses on sustainable and alternative funeral practices, cremation, and the historical and legal frameworks of funeral services. Perry previously worked as an Anatomy Curator at the SIU School of Medicine, facilitating body donations, and has licensed experience in funeral homes and crematories in Illinois and Indiana. He is actively involved in the Green Burial Council, serving as its President since 2010, and acts as a faculty advisor for the Sigma Phi Sigma coed business fraternity's Alpha Chapter.
