Sam Calhoun is a Professor at the Washington and Lee University School of Law, where he has taught since 1978. He has held the Robert O. Bentley Chair in Law since 2019 and previously served as the Class of 1960 Professor of Ethics and Law. His research focuses on contracts, commercial law, legal writing, and intersections of law and religion, particularly regarding abortion controversies and faith-based public policy debates.
Calhoun earned his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law and a B.A. from Harvard. He twice received fellowships for excellence in teaching and organized W&L Law Review symposia on topics like Roe v. Wade and ethics in legal practice.
