Sam Borden is an Adjunct Professor at St. Bonaventure University’s School of Communication, teaching JMC 606 – The Art of the Interview. He is also a Global Correspondent and Senior Writer at ESPN, focusing on enterprise and investigative stories in soccer, NFL, Olympics, and NBA. His reporting spans over 40 countries and has earned multiple awards, including Emmys, Gracies, and APSE honors. Borden holds a BA in English and Jewish Studies from Emory University (2001) and an MFA in Creative Writing from Fairfield University (2013).
His work includes Emmy-nominated investigations into FIFA corruption, the Chapecoense tragedy, and Russian hooliganism. Notable projects like Invisible (exploring non-apparent disabilities in sports) won APSE’s top prize and Webby nominations. Borden’s career spans The New York Times (2011–2017) as their first European sports correspondent and earlier roles at the New York Daily News and Florida Times-Union.
Awards include an Emmy for E:60’s best sports anthology, a Gracie Award for his Nigerian bobsled team coverage, and multiple APSE accolades. His writing frequently appears in The Best American Sports Writing.
