Sam Bailey

Sam Bailey serves as a PartTime Lecturer in the Department of Music and Performing Art at the University of Canterbury, where he operates as a pianist, improviser, composer, educator, and promoter specializing in collaborative interdisciplinary performance practices.

His research focuses on classical piano performance, jazz improvisation, and free improvisation with strong emphasis on cross-disciplinary collaborations spanning chamber music, dance, poetry, film, photography, and culinary arts. This work bridges traditional musical forms with contemporary artistic expressions through innovative ensemble configurations and experimental performance frameworks.

Bailey actively promotes artistic integration across diverse creative fields while maintaining core expertise in both structured classical traditions and spontaneous improvisational techniques within academic and public performance contexts.
