Dr. Sally Howell is an Honorary Research Fellow at Macquarie University's School of Psychological Sciences and serves as Principal of the Macquarie University Special Education Centre (MUSEC). With over 30 years of experience in special education, she has worked across public, independent, and Catholic school systems, held senior roles in the NSW Department of Education, and advised national educational authorities including ACARA and NESA on curriculum design for students with disabilities.
Her research focuses on:
- Literacy/numeracy acquisition in students with learning difficulties
- Early identification of mathematical disabilities through number sense assessment
- Evidence-based interventions for special education populations
Currently leading the AISNSW School-Based Research Project at MUSEC School, she coordinates this K-6 special education facility while facilitating research initiatives, supervising postgraduate practicum students, and contributing to Macquarie's special education academic programs. Her work emphasizes collaborative partnerships between schools, researchers, and families.
