Sally Hourigan

Dr Sally Hourigan is a Lecturer in the School of Humanities and Communication at the University of Southern Queensland. She also serves as Assistant Editor for Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education. Her research focuses on material culture studies, sustainable clothing practices, and community development in non-renewable resource regions.

• Education: PhD (Griffith University), BBus(Hons) & BBus (Queensland University of Technology)

Her work explores clothing as material culture, examining relationships between mothers and daughters through dress practices, and investigates sustainable fashion practices among women. She also studies community development strategies in local government contexts, particularly in resource-dependent communities.

Teaching includes courses on cultural diversity, ethnographic methods, material culture & museums, and professional development. Administrative roles include journal editorial support and program coordination.
