About
Dr. Sailaja Paruchuri is a Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. She leads the Laboratory of Bioactive Lipid Signaling in Pulmonary Physiology. Her research investigates bioactive lipid mediators (leukotrienes, prostaglandins) and mechanosensitive TRPV4 channels in inflammation, fibrosis, and vascular remodeling. She earned her Ph.D. from Lund University and completed training at Nagarjuna University and the University of Hyderabad.
Research focuses on molecular mechanisms in pulmonary diseases, tumor angiogenesis, and macrophage function. Current studies examine how lipid signaling pathways interact with mechanotransduction in conditions like asthma and cancer metastasis. Her lab utilizes molecular biology and in vivo models to study TRPV4 channel functions in endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and immune cells.
Honors include the NIH K99/R00 award and Foght Assistant Professorship. She has published extensively on topics spanning mast cell activation, oxidized LDL uptake, and TRPV4's role in fibrosis and cancer. Recent articles show consistent focus on how mechanical forces and lipid mediators regulate cellular responses in pathological contexts.
