About
Sahas Barve serves as the John W. Fitzpatrick Director of Avian Ecology at Archbold Biological Station in Venus, Florida, leading research on Florida Scrub-Jays and other endangered native bird species through an evolutionary ecology lens.
His scientific work centers on three interconnected themes:
- Behavioral Adaptations: Investigating how avian behaviors evolve in response to ecological pressures.
- Mountain Bird Ecology: Studying species inhabiting montane ecosystems and their adaptive strategies.
- Life History Evolution: Analyzing trade-offs in reproduction, survival, and development across bird species.
As an innovative science educator, Dr. Barve champions Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in research while actively mentoring doctoral and postdoctoral scholars. He directs the Avian Ecology program at Archbold Biological Station, which integrates field studies with conservation initiatives for Florida's threatened avifauna.
