Safia Aidid is an interdisciplinary historian of modern Africa and an Assistant Professor in the Department of History and the African Studies Centre at the University of Toronto (St. George campus). She is cross-appointed with the African Studies Centre and New College.

Her research focuses on anticolonial nationalism, territorial imaginations, borders, and state formation in the Horn of Africa, particularly modern Somalia and Ethiopia. She is currently completing a book manuscript titled "Pan-Somali Dreams: Ethiopia, Greater Somalia, and the Somali Nationalist Imagination," which explores intersections of colonialism, indigeneity, and state-political dynamics in the Somali nationalist movement.
