Safa Kasap is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, College of Engineering. His research focuses on optoelectronic materials and devices, particularly photoconductors and X-ray detectors, with expertise in electrical and optical properties of materials, optoelectronic glasses, and excess noise in electronic devices.
His research group investigates advanced materials for radiation detection, including vanadium dioxide (VO2), amorphous selenium (a-Se), and perovskite-based detectors. Key areas include improving temporal performance, quantum efficiency, and sensitivity through material doping, structural optimization, and noise analysis.
Recent publications highlight trends in chalcogenide photonics, X-ray detector design, and radiation-induced defect dynamics, with a strong emphasis on medical imaging applications and optoelectronic material synthesis.
