Sadis Matalon is Distinguished Professor and Alice McNeal Endowed Chair of Anesthesiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, with secondary appointments as Professor of Cell Biology, Physiology and Biophysics & Microbiology, and Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the UAB School of Public Health.
His research focuses on pulmonary pathophysiology with specific expertise in:
- Lung Injury and Repair mechanisms
- RSV Induced Injury to Vectorial Alveolar Na+ Transport
- Chlorine Injury to the Lung
- RONS and Ion Channels interactions
Dr. Matalon has maintained continuous NIH funding since 1978 and currently serves as principal investigator for two U01 grants and an industry grant. He directs both the Division of Molecular and Translational Biomedicine and the UAB Pulmonary Injury and Repair Center, which he founded.
