Sabrina Toro

Sabrina Toro, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She leads ontology development and data standardization efforts through the Translational and Integrative Sciences Laboratory (TISLab) and the Monarch Initiative. Her work focuses on integrating biomedical data across species using semantic technologies like the Mondo disease ontology and Vertebrate Breed Ontology (VBO).

Key research areas include:

• Ontology curation and interoperability standards
• Zebrafish toxicology phenotype modeling

Recent work includes an NIEHS-funded project (R24 2024) creating a zebrafish toxicology phenotype atlas that advances the Zebrafish Phenotype Ontology (ZP). This initiative develops annotation tools enabling 'born-interoperable' data through standardized toxicophenotype descriptions.
