Sabrina Ciolfi is an Adjunct Professor in Cinema and Visual Culture in South Asia at Ca' Foscari University of Venice. She holds a Ph.D. in Indian and Tibetan Studies from the University of Turin and an M.A. in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Milan. With over two decades of collaboration with the University of Milan, she has also served as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Oxford's Centre for Socio-Legal Studies. Her expertise lies in South Asian Cinema and Gender Studies, with particular attention to sociocultural representations in film and media.
She directed the 2012 Bollywood Film Meeting in Rome and served as a jury member at the 2018 Pakistan International Film Festival. Her research explores themes like gender roles in Indian society, cultural hybridity in cinema, and the intersection of tradition and modernity. Recent publications include analyses of matrimonial ads, religious symbolism, and feminist filmmaking in Hindi cinema.
Her teaching includes courses on South Asian visual culture, combining academic rigor with practical insights from film festivals and interdisciplinary collaborations.
