SHARON MCAVOY

Sharon McAvoy is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the School of Law & Criminal Justice. Her academic responsibilities include leading modules in Family Law, Public Law, and Lawyers’ Skills. Prior to her academic career, she worked in industry with UK Military, Police, and Civil Responders, and later practiced civil law as a Litigation Fee Earner.

• Research Focus: Criminal Law, Sentencing Theory, Family Law, Reproductive Law, Legal Ethics, and Social Justice.
• Key Contributions: Her recent research has critiqued the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 in light of reproductive science advancements and examined short-term custodial sentencing frameworks in England and Wales.
• Publications: 2018 article in Higher Education, Skills and Work-based Learning on integrating legal ethics and social justice into LLB portfolio pathways.
• Networks: Active in interdisciplinary research linking law, social justice, and legal ethics.
