S. Matthew Biberman is a Professor of English and Director of the Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture Since 1900 at the University of Louisville. He holds a Ph.D. in English Literature from Duke University and an M.A. in Creative Writing from New York University. His research focuses on Early Modern English Literature, Shakespeare adaptations, psychoanalysis, gender studies, anti-Semitism, and Jewish American Literature. He also teaches creative nonfiction and serves on the Board of Directors of the Savage Rose Theatre Company.
Key works include Shakespeare, Adaptation, Psychoanalysis: Better than New (2017), analyzing cultural shifts through Shakespeare adaptations, and the memoir Big Sid’s Vincati (2009), which explores family history and motorcycle culture. His scholarly contributions, such as Masculinity, Anti-Semitism and Early Modern English Literature (2004/2016), examine intersections of gender and religion in Renaissance texts. He co-edited Shakespeare After 9/11 (2011), a seminal work on post-9/11 literary responses.
