Ryoa Chung

Ryoa Chung is a Full Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, University of Montreal. She serves as Co-Director of the Centre de Recherche en Éthique (CRE) with Kristin Voigt (McGill) and holds an SSHRC Savoir/Insight Grant for her project Health, Justice and Security (2023-2028). Her work bridges political philosophy, public health ethics, and feminist theory.

• PhD in Philosophy (University of Montreal, 2001), with postdoctoral research at Columbia University (2002) and Harvard School of Public Health (2003)
• President of the Canadian Philosophical Association (2024-2025)

Her research focuses on structural and epistemic injustices, particularly examining health inequalities through feminist lenses and the concept of structural health vulnerability in refugee contexts. She analyzes how systemic power imbalances perpetuate global health inequities, informed by collaborations with international teams funded by CIHR, SSHRC, and the Wellcome Trust.

Recent publications explore intersections between cosmopolitanism and non-ideal theory in addressing health disparities. She co-edited works like Éthique des relations internationales (PUF, 2013) and contributes to The Lancet (2020) on refugee health ethics.
