Dr. Ryan W. Booth is an historian specializing in 19th-early 20th century U.S. military and Indigenous history. He holds a PhD from Washington State University (2021) and teaches at the Department of History, College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on Native scouts' roles in U.S. military campaigns and Indigenous resistance strategies. He also participates in WSU’s Native Programs and the Tribal Nation Building Program. Recent work includes revising his dissertation into a monograph and contributing to the U.S. Department of Interior’s investigation of Pacific Northwest Jesuit boarding schools.

Research interests span U.S. military history, Indigenous sovereignty, and colonialism. Current projects examine Jesuit boarding schools' historical impact and gravesite identification. He has served as a Fulbright-Nehru Fellow in Kolkata (2019-2020) and holds tribal affiliation with the Upper Skagit Tribe.
