About
Ryan Trovitch is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of Graduate Programs in the School of Molecular Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU). He also serves as Associate Faculty in the Biodesign Center for Sustainable Macromolecular Materials and Manufacturing and the Biodesign Center for Applied Structural Discovery. His research focuses on developing sustainable transition metal catalysts for energy and environmental applications, including CO2 utilization, biomass conversion, and the synthesis of eco-friendly materials. Trovitch holds a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Cornell University (2009) and a B.S. in Chemistry from King's College (2004).
His awards include the NSF CAREER Award (2017), Thieme Chemistry Journal Award (2015), and LANL Awards (2009–2010). He has mentored numerous graduate students and led funded projects such as the NSF-supported 'SusChEM: Development of Manganese Hydrosilylation Catalysts for Silicone Curing' and the ACS Petroleum Research Fund grant.
Trovitch's lab emphasizes green chemistry principles, designing catalysts using Earth-abundant metals like manganese and cobalt. Recent work includes sustainable semiconductor coatings and silicone curing alternatives. He collaborates with industry and academic partners, advancing materials for corrosion protection and renewable energy.
He teaches courses in inorganic chemistry, catalysis, and research techniques, and actively participates in initiatives like the Sustainable Chemistry and Catalysis REU program. Trovitch's research group has commercialized manganese and nickel catalysts with Sigma-Aldrich, highlighting their commitment to translating science into practical solutions.
