Ryan Thalman

Ryan Thalman is Associate Professor of Chemistry at Snow College, specializing in atmospheric and environmental chemistry. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Brigham Young University and Ph.D. in Analytical, Environmental, and Atmospheric Chemistry from University of Colorado, Boulder.

His research program investigates air quality in rural Utah through two monitoring stations on Snow College campuses. Funded by NASA Space Grant Consortium and NSF, his work examines local/regional ozone contributions, formaldehyde sources, and innovative detection methods using spectroscopy and drone-based sensors.

Recent publications demonstrate his focus on hydroxyl radical detection (2025), drone-based atmospheric sensing (2024), and long-term Utah air quality trends (2023). He teaches chemistry, drone applications, and natural resources courses, emphasizing hands-on environmental research.

Dr. Thalman maintains active research collaborations with BYU and applies remote sensing techniques to environmental monitoring challenges in the Intermountain West.
