Dr. Ryan Skinnell is Professor of Rhetoric and Writing and Director of the First-Year Writing Program at San José State University. With a PhD from Arizona State University, he specializes in political rhetoric, demagoguery, and composition studies.
Skinnell has authored/edited multiple books including Faking the News: What Rhetoric Can Teach Us About Donald J. Trump and Conceding Composition. His research examines how language shapes political power structures and educational institutions.
Recent publications analyze fascist rhetorical strategies, structural issues in doctoral education, and pedagogical approaches to political discourse. His current projects include a book on Hitler's rhetorical techniques.
