Ryan Rabett is a Senior Lecturer in Human Palaeoecology at Queen’s University Belfast and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London. He holds a PhD in Archaeology from the University of Cambridge (2002) and a BA in Archaeology and Anthropology from the same institution (1998). His career includes temporary lectureships at Cambridge and the University of London, and post-doctoral work in Palaeolithic and ritual archaeology.
Research focuses on human-environment interactions, Southeast Asian prehistory, and World Heritage management. He directs the SUNDASIA archaeological project at Tràng An World Heritage Site, Vietnam, and contributes to UNESCO-related initiatives. Key projects include ecotourism impact analysis, biodiversity management strategies, and high-resolution artifact imaging through 'SmartGrain' and 3D 'Infinite Focus' technologies.
Recent publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to climate action, heritage preservation, and long-term human adaptation. He co-authored the Tràng An World Heritage nomination and the 2021-25 Management Plan for the site. His work spans field projects in Vietnam, Europe, North Africa, and the Americas.
Recognized for mentoring students in innovative archaeological techniques, his awards include national recognitions for student-led research. Current projects include a book on Vietnamese archaeology and a children’s book merging ancient Greek themes with environmental education.
