Ryan Popma

Ryan Popma is an Instructor and Program Coordinator of the Spanish-English Health Care Interpreter Training Program at Oregon State University, affiliated with the College of Health and the Center for Health Innovation. He specializes in healthcare interpretation and language access, with national certifications from CCHI and OHA (2017). Holding an MA in Translation and Interpretation from Wake Forest University (2019), he focuses on delivering accessible healthcare services to limited-English-proficient patients across Oregon through in-person, telephonic, and virtual modalities.

His research interests emphasize improving healthcare equity through effective communication strategies in multilingual settings. He has contributed to advancing interpreter training programs and clinical practice standards in Oregon's healthcare sector. Ryan advocates for systemic language access reforms to bridge gaps in healthcare delivery for marginalized communities.

He oversees the Spanish-English Health Care Interpreter Training Program, equipping professionals with critical skills in medical terminology, ethical practice, and cultural competency.
