Dr. Ruth Riley is an Associate Professor at the University of Surrey's School of Health Sciences, affiliated with the Workforce, Organisation and Wellbeing (WOW) Expert Group. She holds degrees including a BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, and PGCert (Dist), and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her research focuses on occupational distress and suicidality among healthcare professionals, emphasizing systemic and cultural factors impacting mental health. She has led projects such as the Wellcome Discovery Award examining nurse suicidality through a feminist lens and developed postvention guidance for NHS staff after colleague suicides.
Her work explores workplace injustices, mental health stigma, and the emotional labor of healthcare workers. She collaborates with artists and filmmakers to enhance research impact.
