Ruth Pagell

Ruth Pagell is an Adjunct Professor in the Library and Information Science Programme at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Previously, she served as the first University Librarian at Singapore Management University (SMU) from 2005 to 2011, leading the development of the digital library (PYXIS) and institutional repository (InK). Her career spans over four decades in academic librarianship, including roles at Emory University, the Wharton School, and Drexel University.

Education: She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Psychology from Tufts University and dual Master’s degrees in Library Science and an MBA from Drexel University. Her expertise includes digital library systems, research support, and library infrastructure development. She pioneered initiatives to integrate libraries into academic research ecosystems, emphasizing user-centered design and global collaboration.

Ruth has taught graduate courses at institutions like Drexel, Clark Atlanta University, and Nanyang Technological University, focusing on library science and business research methodologies. Her international experience includes a secondment to the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, promoting library innovation in Southeast Asia. She remains active in advancing library services through technology, pedagogy, and strategic partnerships.
