Her work bridges academic theory with practical applications in organisational transformation, particularly through her role in the Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing.
Recent publications (2023-2024) reveal three dominant trends: post-pandemic remote work impacts on productivity and sustainability, indigenisation of business curricula in Australian universities, and intersectional approaches to cultural safety for LGBTQI+ communities in aged care. These align with UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 5 (Gender Equality).
Her distinguished teaching contributions are recognized through:
- Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy
- OLTC Citation and University Teacher of the Year (2015)
- Vice Chancellor's Educator of the Year Award (2019)
Professor McPhail actively supervises 6 doctoral candidates while managing significant grant funding, including DFAT's Aus4ASEAN Green Skills programs and Queensland Transport Department projects on Indigenous inclusion. Her current supervision focuses on cultural safety in institutional frameworks and menopausal leadership experiences.
As a Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing member since 2017, she contributes to interdisciplinary research addressing contemporary workplace challenges through collaborative industry partnerships.
