Ruth Lawlor is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences. She teaches courses on diplomatic, military, and global history, including 'The U.S. Empire' and 'War in U.S. History'. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and previously taught at Yale and Boston Universities.
Her research examines U.S. military history, gender/sexuality in conflict, and transnational dimensions of World War II. She is currently writing a book on sexual violence and the U.S. military justice system during World War II, and co-editing a volume on the global history of WWII. Her publications analyze how race, gender, and nationality shaped narratives of wartime sexual violence, particularly through case studies like the Stuttgart Incident.
She mentors graduate students researching U.S. military history and global WWII studies.
