Ruth Eaton

Ruth Eaton is Lecturer in Design Contexts at Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University. Her interdisciplinary research examines online social commentary about clothing functionality and gendered aspects of fashion.

Education: BA (Hons) International Fashion Practice, Manchester Metropolitan University

Eaton is currently completing a PhD analyzing social media discourse about pockets in clothing (2006-2021). As Creative Director of Spoon Studio, she produces made-to-order clothing and textile installations. Her work has been featured at Tate Liverpool.

Research Focus: Social media as data source for understanding wearer perspectives, with emphasis on functional elements like pockets as symbols of gender empowerment.
